As we slowly progress into spring we are at one of our most popular club events, "The Annual Tony Bartozek Memorial I'm
Not A Modeling Loser Model Building Challenge" (formerly known as "The Tim Hortons Challenge"). This yearly voluntary contest
is named after it's founder, Tony Bartozek, who wished to have the contest forever named after him. Tony's motivation for
starting it was that sometimes we get started on a model project and don't follow through for whatever the reason. If you
wish to enter, the contest starts at the club meeting on May 19th and here are the "rules":
- Bring in a model kit that you'd like to build. It must not be started yet.
- Bring in a Tim Hortons gift card totaling $5.00 - this is your entry "fee".
- Photographer extraordinaire, Bob Collignon will take a photo of you holding your entry as documentation and proof of intent to enter.
- Once all participants are tallied, entrants will be divided into two teams.
- The contest ends at the August club meeting. You must submit your complete model at this time. Late submissions will not be accepted.
- Models must be thoroughly finished as if you are entering it into a BuffCon contest. There will be no judging as to whose model is best, only finished. Glued, sanded, painted, decals, etc. (For example, if you build a kit and didn't paint it, you lose).
- If anyone does not finish as specified above, your entire team will forfeit their $5.00 Tim Hortons gift cards to the other team. In the case of a tie, you will receive your gift card back.
- Also, at the August meeting when all entries are submitted and winners/losers are determined, Bob Collignon will photograph the winning team members displaying their entries and signifying that they are "winners" by holding up the "W" with their fingers. Losing team members will also be photographed with their entries and shall hang their heads in shame while displaying the letter "L" with their fingers over their foreheads.
This contest is intended to be fun and all are encouraged to participate. A listing of entrants, teams and subjects will be posted in the next newsletter. For those participating, it is also encouraged to bring in your entries to the club meetings to show your progress as the contest unfolds.
If you're new or have never participated before, now is a good time to show off your modeling skills.
