...or News from the Nameless One

I don't have much to go over this month, so I'll be brief and spare you my usual ramblings and ruminations. (*queue collective sigh of relief*) However, what I do have is very important.

As many of you know, our club is going to have some changes come this April in terms of leadership. For unrelated personal reasons I will not be seeking re-election as club President, Bob Collignon will not be seeking re-election as First VP nor will Dave Schwab be running as club Treasurer. This is a significant number of operationally important roles that will need to be filled come April.

This is where you come in guys! I have written and spoke at our meeting on the ever-growing importance of members stepping up and considering leadership roles. IPMS Niagara is not your run-of-the-mill organization due to the efforts of its members and their dedication. With 60% of your current officers deciding to step-back (at least in the short-term) now is the time to get off of the fence and make the move.

There are several offices that you can nominate yourself or a friend for, including open seats on the E-board. Each office carries specific duties and rights. For information on any of the above, feel free to contact me or anyone that is currently an officer or E-board member. They will be happy to answer your questions.

As I have stated before, the friendships, sense of accomplishment and comraderie are well worth the extra time and effort invested in joining E-board. I ask everyone to put some serious time and consideration into this. Nominations are at the March meeting. I honestly hope to see some new names on the ballot.

This month's general meeting will be held on the fourth Monday this month due to the President's Day holiday (how ironic that I have to work that day.) To clarify, this month's meeting will be Monday, February 27th at 7PM in the basement of the Harlem Road Community Center. This month, Bob Collignon will be finishing up his two part tree and shrubbery demo.

That's all that I have for now! See you soon.

Notes from the January 2012 Meeting

John Doerr did the honors for the model tables.

Paul Hines proudly displayed his Chesapeake Bay Skipjack oyster boat constructed entirely from wood. Paul scratch built the dredges and lifeboats and finished the model with Flo-Quil paints.

John Doerr brought a large number of 1/35 scale figure which he intends to use in a diorama of Germans at rest. In addition to Tamiya and Minicraft figures, John has a field kitchen kit and some resin accessories.

Larry Osolkowski showed a 1/72 scale GMC CCKW 353 cargo truck and a 1.24 scale Honda Accord. He also brought a 1/24 Fujimi Mercedes SLS safety car.

Mike Morales showed a 1/24 scale Monogram 1968 Chevelle on some unique display stands.

Mike Butry had a 1/48 scale T-6A Texan the canopy of which he replaced with a vacu-formed piece. He also had a Tamiya 2 1/2 ton GMC truck to which he added scratch built details.

John Zaranek showed a 1/35 scale Tamiya Schutzpanzer Marder, a 1/72 scale Supermarine Walrus, and a 1/48 scale bulkhead from a CH-113 helicopter on which he scratch built the winch.

Bob Collignon brought some commercially available pine trees.

Tom Mooney brought a 200mm Verlinden bust of Joachim Pieper that he painted with oils.

Allan Gryfe shared a couple of kits he scored at an estate sale: a Buick Special and a '57 Chevy.

Newcomer Alex Syntellis-Jones brought a 1/48 scale Corsair by Revell (his first airbrushed paint job), a 1/72 Revell Heinkel 111, and a 1/72 scale DeHavilland Mosquito.

Frank Blonski's 1966 Mustang is in the primer stage.

Paul Kittell displayed a ship model he scratch built for practice.

Bob Raithel showed an Italieri 1/72 scale Ju-52, an Airfix 1/72 scale BV-141, a Hasegawa 1/72 scale Japanese "Jack" fighter, and a PM 1/72 scale Lippisch experimental jet fighter. All models were in different states of completion, and each had its own unique set of challenges.

Jacob Gadek displayed a Mobius Spiderman which he hand-painted and added plastic rod to simulate the hero letting his web fly! Cool! He also brought a Tamiya Tyrannosaurus-Rex model which he reports had fit problems. Jacob airbrushed the skin pattern. Nicely done!

Mark Gadek shared his 1/32 scale Hasegawa Me-109 G6 built out of the box, and a 1/32 scale Revell Hawk to which he added after-market seats and interior.

Bob Collignon presented the second part of his demo on making trees and shrubbery from common toxic materials.

Finally, some around-the-room shots of the gang checking out the model tables and otherwise enjoying the meeting.

Good meeting all around and good to see you all.

Thanks to Bob Collignon for most of the photography (I don't know who took the photos of him.)

Renewal of our Special Offer for All IPMS Niagara Frontier Members for 2012

We had another good year at BuffCon so the Executive Board has determined that we can extend our special IPMS USA national membership support offer for a third year, through the end of April 2012.

We will rebate ½ of the cost for a one-year membership to IPMS USA for new national memberships and renewals. The tangible benefit to this membership is 6 bimonthly copies of the excellent modeling publication IPMS Journal.

Adult memberships are $25.00 per year and Juniors (17 years old and under) are $12.00, so your rebates are $12.50 and $6.00 respectively.

You complete and submit the application (you can get one from Dave Schwab) along with your payment directly to IPMS USA or do it on line at the National website. You will receive a membership card in the mail a few weeks later.

To get your rebate, you just have to show your current IPMS USA member card to Dave Schwab and he will give you money. How simple is that?

The E-Board encourages everyone to take advantage of this offer. It's a good way to get your feet wet and see what IPMS USA is all about.
