Season's Greetings fellow modelers and IPMS Niagara Frontier members!

Our annual holiday pizza and wing party will be held for all current club members this Monday at the December meeting. I hope all of you can attend to help celebrate the Christmas season. We are having a "Secret Santa" gift exchange for those who wish to participate. It's pretty easy - bring a holiday wrapped new scale model kit to the club meeting where it will be exchanged with others who wish to participate. Please do this anonymously, or the "secret" part really has no meaning.

Also, we are sponsoring, along with the United States Marine Corps, our annual Christmas "Toys For Tots" gift drive. Again, for those who wish to participate, please bring in a NEW, UNUSED, UNWRAPPED, UNMARKED toy for children anywhere from infants to 18 years old. Members of the Corps will be attending the party as our guests and will collect the club donations at this time. There really is no cost "limit" for the gifts - whatever you like. We've suggested in the past that a $20 gift is more than appropriate. We also do suggest that you keep in mind the "older kids" often get left out of these toy drives. There's a lot of teenage appropriate gifts out there like mP3 players, or head phones for that price range that will make someone's Christmas day a little better. But, like I said, this is voluntary for those of you who wish to join in.

It's only a few weeks until the new year and that means that your club dues are up for renewal at the January meeting. Dues are $10 every year (cash or check) and entitles you to pizza and wings twice a year, plus 12 club meetings and BuffCon in April. Club Treasurer, Tom Faith is more than happy to reconcile your account.

Speaking of BuffCon, our annual show and contest is rapidly approaching. This means that there is a lot of work to be done in order to have another successful show. The saying "many hands make light work" applies to many things in life, but in our case, BuffCon especially so. As club members, you are not asked to do a lot. However, since we are a "model club" it is assumed that all of us enjoy the hobby. So, what we do expect is for all of us to pitch in and help with the show. The executive board members are "team leaders" for the various functional areas of the show, such as vendors, kitchen, set-up, registration/admissions, security, and others, and will be actively recruiting the membership to volunteer for one or more specific jobs. So, when asked, please take a moment and volunteer for a role in the show. The more members we have working, the more time everyone will have available to enjoy the exhibits, vendors and fellow modelers.

On behalf of the entire Executive Board of IPMS Niagara Frontier I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe, fun, productive and profitable new year.

Model Table Round-up from the November meeting

Thanks again to Matt Keysa for directing the model table commentary.

Bob Butry showed us his Revell 1/72 WV-2 "Super Connie" model. Bob brought it in for the "Oldest Model I Have" exhibition, but unfortunately, didn't say how old the kit is.

He also showed us his Strombecker 1/72 F-86 Sabre Jet. Bob said he grew up in the Korean War era and this was THE plane of the time.

Matt Keysa brought in a sentimental kit, the Revell USS Arizona in "box scale". He was about 16 years old at the time and built it with his dad, Stan. Stan was a long time IPMS Niagara Frontier member who sadly passed a few years ago.

Mike Butry offered his Tamiya M113 in 1/35th scale as his oldest kit in his collection. It was built way back in 1994.

Michael also had a Tamiya Jeep Cherokee on hand which he hand brushed with Tamiya Black and hand-waxed the finish.

Nick Carluccio had his 1959 Ford Skyliner model. It was built by Revell for display in the Modelland Hobby Shop. Nick was given the model when the store closed.

Nick also had his 1960 Ford Falcon on hand, which he partly painted Pactra Insignia Red. Nick related that it is the original release of the kit.

Jason Ignatjew showed us his 1982 Chevy Camaro Promo built in 1983. He says there's about 5 years of dust accumulated on it.

Jason also brought in his 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner built in 1987. He painted it Testor's Lime Green.

Eric Hillebrand displayed a huge 1/6th scale Kettenkrad by Dragon. He's built it out-of-box and has yet to weather it.

Larry Osolkowski brought in a newly acquired Revell-Germany 1/24 BMW i8 Hybrid Sportscar. He's planning on using Scalefinishes OEM colors for it.

His oldest kit is one that he built in "7th or 8th grade", the AMT 1/25th 1960 Buick Convertible. Larry related that putting it together back then was a "big deal" and using every decal and customizing part was "mandatory". He estimates that there are "decades" of dust accumulation on it.

Mark Gadek offered us the 1/32 Hasegawa P-47 Thunderbolt. He used Eduard PE for the interior and an "Engine N Things" engine. He built it about 8 years ago and it's the oldest in his collection.

Clint Keidel showed us the Revell P-40B in 1/48th scale. He's added a variety of aftermarket sets to the base kit and finished it with Tamiya, Vallejo and Model Master paints. His next step is to add the weathering and the project is for the club's "Buffalo" themed group build.

Clint also brought in an older kit from his collection, Monogram's 1/48 scale Me109E. He used Testor's tube glue (what's that?) and Testor's paints in the small glass bottles.

Rich Bernecki displayed his current "in progress" kit, Trumpeter's T-34/85 Soviet battle tank in 1/16th scale. He's working on the turret weld beads and has it sprayed with Mr. Surfacer.

Jeff Usiak showed his current "Buffalo Build" in progress, the Hasegawa 1/72nd F9F which will be the focal point of his diorama "Kenney Field" park/playground in Tonawanda (Colvin and Brighton Ave). Jeff says he scratchbuilt the nose using the tip of a pen and Scotch tape to simulate the metal patches.

Jacob Gadek showed us another piece in his growing collection of Marvel movie characters. This one is "Ghost Rider" by Toy Biz. Jacob used acrylic paints from the craft store and clear orange and red by Tamiya.

Bill Borkowski brought in a kit he built in the late '60's or '70's, the AMT kit of the USS Enterprise as made famous on the Star Trek television show. Bill replaced the kit decals with hand-crafted markings made from Chartpak graphic tape and Letraset dry transfer lettering.

Frank Blonski built this when he was a kid - a 1957 Chevy "Outcast" funny car.

Mark Budniewski says his oldest surviving kit is an AMT 1/25 1965 Chevy El Camino. Mark brush painted the body with enamel yellow paint (brought by his dad who got it from work). He built it around 1970 when he was 11 years old and it won an award at a contest at the Walden Auction House (which sold model kits).

Dick Schulenberg's AMT/Frog Fokker D2.1 in 1/72nd scale was built in 1970. He used PollyS paints that had just been released.

Tom Faith's oldest surviving kit is a Marder built in about 1987. Tom used a variety of weathering techniques including bashing up the fenders and barbeque ashes. This was before weathering products became available.

Dave Safe built a scale model of his "Land Shelter" that he has out on his property. Dave doesn't specify a scale, but does say it's all scratch built and it was very time consuming to figure out the dimensions.

Tom Mooney showed us his Trumpeter 1/24th scale Mitsubishi A65. Tom base painted parts of the model in a metallic color and then applied the colored top coats. He then used a coarse sanding stick to remove some of the top paint, revealing bare metal underneath.

Bob Conshafter's ICM Panzer 2 Luchs Reconaissance Tank kit won "Best Military Vehicle" and "First Place -OOB" at the 2008 Erie Scale Modeler's Show. He used Tamiya and Testor's paints for the finish and weathering.

Tony Gliszczynski had his Revell Christine '58 Plymouth Drag Car Pro-Mod on hand this month. Tony says it's built out-of-box and one of his first projects.

Tony also brought us a build from 1993, AMT's 1992 T-Bird NASCAR painted in white by Testors.

Paul Hines showed us a wooden ship kit he's completed, a Bluejacket Shipcrafter's "Seguin Tugboat" in 1/48th scale. Paul says it's the oldest operating steam tugboat and he's fully detailed the deck house. He's used Floquil paints for the final finish and acrylics for weathering.

John Zaranek demonstrated his latest build, Tamiya's Gama Goat military ambulance as used by the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division during the Grenada campaign in 1982. John used Tamiya acrylics custom mixed as per the kit instructions to get the US Army's MERDC paint scheme used during that era.

Finally, there were a few unidentified late entries on the tables.

And, a few around-the-room shots of the meeting.

Thanks to Larry Osolkowski for the photography.
